Monotonik is delighted to present a new EP from Russian idm stars Sleepy Town Manufacture, some six years after they released their first tracks for the label. The result is the evocative 'Hello And Goodbye EP', four tracks of wonderfully laidback electronic, starting out with the looping, languid 'Trem'. Next up is 'Oopon', showcasing all kinds of beautiful, pitchperfect chord and percussion action. Finally, we have the slightly harder, more angular 'Zzujd', before we finish out with the title...

It's a pleasure to be able to put out the second Monotonik release from the Russian duo, Sleepy Town Manufacture (who are newly expanded to three with the addition of a new German-based Russian member.) They ended up tapping their friends, both 'famous' and up-and-coming, to remix their dreamily ambient 'Latatoo' track, which is featured on the forthcoming "Cottage Industries 3" compilation on the ever excellent Neo-Ouija . And, as the icing on the cake, Sleepy Town have complemented...

Long-awaited and finally sorted, this 4-track EP is from US artist Proem, previously known for his excellent "Burn Plate No.1" album on Hydrant and supa compilation appearances on Toytronic and Kracfive. EP opener, "Hyla1", takes us deep into drone territory, echoing and subtly glitching like sonar waves, before "Romanian Fruit Bowl" cuts loose with spacey multi-layers of minimalist loop-free drill+drum action. "Access Mike" switches up a gear into...

After releasing a pseudonymous EP from Finland's Aleksi Eeben a few months ago, we kept an eye on his work further, only to discover the _amazing_ Commodore 64 work he's been doing with his self-coded John Player, which brings a 'tracker'-style interface to bear on the C64. And if you're wondering who this Aleksi fellow is and where he came from - well, as Heatbeat of the infamous CNCD, he was regularly voted one of the best ever Amiga .MOD composers back in the early '90s. So, given a few...

A Monotonik debut for Brighton, UK-based electronic artist Northcape, then, with the sublimely mellow 'Some Bright Valley', all chilled-out strings and gently departing sunsets. Previously having debuted a couple of self-released albums, this first netlabel release starts out with the cutely meandering 'Red Panda', before moving on to the even more gorgeously pastoral, almost triphop-flecked 'A Part Of The Forest'. The first release on Monotonik for Radix, aka Mosaik, the Swedish artist who's been making a lot of waves in the PC 'demo-scene' over the past couple of years with his perfectly crafted melodies and beautifully smooth stylings. "Counting Stars" is the sound of a man who's clearly been listening to Boards Of Canada, but has seen fit to put his own spin on their innocent electronica. What with the beautifully pitch-bent lead and the hypnotic voice drifting in and out of the background,...

We're delighted to welcome back Finnish artist Aleksi Eeben, with the latest in his beguilingly offbeat electronic 'numbers' series for Monotonik, 'The Four Tales' - all soaring leads and strange tonal interplay. Now, it's possible that Eeben - who has been composing electronic music for nearly the past 20 years, initially as Amiga demo-scene legend 'Heatbeat', is a distinctly acquired taste, thanks to his borderline avant jazz influences. But if first track 'Minor Tale' - all sweetly sliding...

When Finnish-born, currently Irish-based idm veteran Lackluster, aka Esa Ruoho, insistently pinged us over IM to release this stunning single track, 'Zero Million Barrels Of Oil Per Day', he was keen that it go live before the global oil market reached its peak. We're not sure we actually managed that, but heck, we figure this almost 10-minute track will convey its mood perfectly well, separately of the amount of crude bubbling out of the ground at any particular speed. We first released Michigan-based foreboding idm superstar Dead Eros on Monotonik back in 2005, and are delighted to welcome him back with this 4-track release, 'Cycle EP', all slightly spooky, overlapping electronics in a distinctly regional, but distinctly original way. We start out with 'Specific Ocean', which is fuzzed-up angular metal funk, in a laid back way, before going on to the keyboard-flecked, downtempo 'Ignite Alarm', which is heavy on the shuffle, almost half-speed drill and bass...

Another debut, then, and this time an American practitioner of the dark idm arts, in the form of Ann Arbor, MI-based Dead Eros. Monsieur Eros has run his own Music Is For Assholes label for some time, hangs with the Ghostly International chaps, but produces a distinctly contrasting output to anything they might put out - from light, sinewave-strewn idm to dark, foreboding ambient. So, we made it - '10 Years Of Monotonik - The Mix' is testament to that. After a longish period of hibernation, Dice, aka Prob., the Finnish breaks-guru who's a longtime Dharma collaborator and has previous and forthcoming 12" releases on Audio Couture, Straight Up Breakbeat and Formation, comes up with a gem of a mini-EP for Monotonik in his more laidback Prob. guise. First up is the title track, "Emotion", a wonderfully horizontally-inclined d+b-flecked track, reminiscent of some of the output on Certificate 18, perhaps - all insistent snares and...

Long-awaited, here's the full (and final!) album from UK artist Binary. Following critical acclaim for his 12" on UK label Planet Noisebox, "The Music Of Sound", constructed entirely out of noises from household objects, and the subsequent CD "Brick Wall Music", he elected to stop releasing music altogether, and donated this album to Monotonik for a freely spreadable release online... As a result, you get quite a lot for your money - since you pay.. no money. From the...

All the way from Alaska, Jiva provides us with some truly serene idm in the style of the similarly remote but moving Boards Of Canada or Biosphere. Beautiful home listening for everyone, and well worth the download. And we know our French is schoolboy at best, but the title is definitely something about strolling across the seabed, isn't it?

Fresh from pretty much cleaning up in the oldskool competitions at the Assembly '02 demo-party in Helsinki, Finland, in July (well, 3rd in oldskool music, 3rd in oldskool demo, 2nd in oldskool graphics utilising classic machines like the Commodore 64, Vic20, and Gameboy, you get the idea..), the prodigously talented Aleksi 'Heatbeat' Eeben, formerly an Amiga demo-scene legend as part of CNCD, has used his own JohnPlayer 'tracker' for C64 to produce this new opus, over eleven minutes of, well.....

This piece of trickjazztical funknology comes at you outta Staten Island.. uhh.. Sweden, and monkeys around with your peridontal atrium in a wondrous, Squarepusher meets Ninja Tune style. Gotta love that that cut-up style courtesy of Sushi Brother, who's aka Balrog of m211-affiliated furry animals, TPOLM. See, Spot, see the scratching, see the oldskool samples, see the twisty synth riffs and brass hits, run, Spot, be very fearful indeed..

As we edge into summer, we're proud to give further exposure to a gorgeous album submitted to Monotonik late last year from James Kirsch, aka General Fuzz, and the truly spectacular chill-out electronic that is 'Soulful Filling'. Having grown up in Newton, MA, General Fuzz is happy to make his home in the San Francisco Bay Area, and he recruited a number of talented local live musicians to fill out the electronic sounds on this charming full-length album. (In fact, his website has a detailed...

We're very proud to present the first release on Monotonik from Secede , a Dutch-based artist who's just starting to get a lot of buzz online, with a remix featured on the hotly anticipated Machine Drum remix CD due out on Merck pretty soon, plus a full length solo CD (also on Merck ) to follow. So, this 4-track EP is a perfect introduction to the lush, melodic and intelligent sound of Secede, with the first track, "Depart & Arrive", cutting up a gorgeous ambient waltz with the...

We return once more to the Monotonik fold with the mp3 debut from Hoffman, who's currently DJ-ing a number of techno nights in the SouthWest of England, and shows he still has the goods on the composition side, too, with this great piece of phasing minimal techno. We were initially thinking this didn't fit in with Monotonik-style, majestic though it is - but then we realised, of course it fits - Hoffman's a massive part of Mono (he had the first ever release, for one), and Monotonik's aim is...

Returning after his debut 'As Time Passes EP' of last year, US electronic artist Matt Centonze, aka Blisaed , who's been continuing to release excellent material on netlabels such as Camomille and Ronin Collective , graces us with another gently beautiful 4-track EP of vocal-specked, emotion-tinged electronics. This time round, debut song 'Photo' starts things off with casually gorgeous melodies, all multi-layered and shimmering and oxidizing slowly as it's exposed to the air, before 'A Silent...

Courtesy of probably the most renowned artist on Monotonik, Finland's pukka idm maestro Lackluster , late of DeFocus Records, Merck, Rikos, and a host of other labels, we have a rare treat - a full, hour-long live set recorded at Helsinki's M-Bar in July 2003. There, using a laptop running the great Ableton Live software, Esa 'Lackluster' Ruoho mashed up classic Monotonik tracks, remixes, and on-the-spot jams into a cohesive whole - highlights include a gorgeous unreleased track, the...

We've made release #150 in style, thanks to Monotonik artist Beak, who previously released the much-loved 'Amoral Mayor Earwig EP' last year. This time, he's returned with the guitar-idm specialness of 'El Hacedor EP', featuring three tracks originally composed for the Project168 collective's efforts earlier in 2005, and his mix of contemplative acoustics and carefully nimble percussion. We start proceedings with 'Baileyi', all peaking hi-hats, wolf howls, and carefully picked guitars, before...

We're delighted to present the final release in a trilogy of 'virtual 7-inches'from Australian Mark Mitchell, aka Super Science. These tracks were originallyreleased on the super-duper-limited Splashdown CDR series in 1999, and we'vepicked out the best unreleased tracks for Monotonik, to put out for free. As mentioned before, Clue To Kalo , Mark's new project, has had its 'Come Here When You Sleepwalk' album picked up by Mush Records in the US and The Leaf Label in Europe, and we HIGHLY...

We like receiving new tracks from new artists out of the blue, and previously Berlin and Chicago-based Gschmidt is another of those happy surprises. Based on some wonderfully eerie conspiracy theories involving rogue planets stalking the Earth, 'Nibiru Coming' is a complex web of indietronic melodies worth becoming entwined in. The lead track, 'Head For The Hills', starts with some serene synthplay before delving into a complex melding of live instruments, driving percussion, and carefully...

Malty Media is, of course, previous Monotonik releaser Aquaboogie and long-time veteran idm artist Jet Jaguar, creators of the 'Bracken Bed' EP on the label a while back, and they kick off the final set of MTK releases with this fine piece of frippery. The New Zealand-based group's style is best described as 'whimsical Orb-like soundscapes with an Antipodean twist', perhaps, and these four-track pulses through gently chicken-clucking debut track 'Chook Nocturne', before settling on gently...

Kuu, aka Substance, scores a majestic little piece of Monotonik-ness from the depths of his pure sinewaved soul. Beautifully drifting for most of it, the final couple of minutes change tack into a minor hailstorm of electronic noise. The sustain goes on forever.. just a really, serenely beautiful track. Comparisons are needed but not really forthcoming - perhaps a little like Luke Slater when he's being a little mellower? Who knows? Well, you do when you download it, we believe.

Returning with his second, long-awaited EP on Monotonik, Same Nice Lamb, aka Justin Hassler, delivers us six exquisite tracks of electronic music in the form of 'Prechi'. From opening track '8 Seconds Ahead' through the closer, 'Origen's Lament (Last Week I Was A Man)', the EP features beautiful leads, atmospheric effects, and a melodic throughline to die for. You might also particularly enjoy 'The Inhibitionist' for services to wondrous melody. In any case, delight in the sounds, and thanks...

We're proud to feature the debut release from Kaamos, the new artist name for the Finnish musician formerly known as Phonex. Under that moniker, he released some beautiful tracks on a split 10" with Sense for Lee Metamatics' Neo-Ouija Records, plus appearances on classy compilations for Merck, Suojain, and Neo-Ouija. However, he's been away for a while, revitalising and recuperating, and "Agony" is a gorgeous return to form for his new moniker, showcasing scatterbeat drums,...

We're delighted to welcome back multiple Monotonik releaser Planet Boelex, who's provided us with an awesome 60+ minute live set, featuring all self-composed Boelex material (much of it new!) recorded at the recent Virus Festival in Lithuania. Boelex, whose tracks have also appeared on Kahvi and Ogredung in recent years, has a beautifully layered pure idm sound, and the mix showcases the downtempo, chilled nature of his sound briefly, starting out with 'Forever And Always' and moving on through...

The debut release from Canada's contemplative, indielectronic Oveloe , aka Charles Bisaillon, who's previously released an excellent EP on net.label Kikapu , shows a beautifully phrased grasp of strangely retro-sounding, but absolutely not bleep heavy electronics. Soulful, considered, and intelligent, it makes the weirdest sense to us. As for the individual songs, 'Transistor Love', the first track, allows a throbbing backbeat drift and a plaintive, multi-tiered lead, before seguing into an...

We don't tend to release many single tracks at Monotonik anymore, preferring EPs or albums. But when cult Finnish ex demo-scene composer Tweeter, perhaps best known for his late '90s releases on Substance's mod.label Voodoo, contacts us and offers us his first finished track since 2001, and it happens to be just gorgeous, what do we do? We're proud to present the first Monotonik release from Australian artist Sense for almost 2 years (where does time go?), and since his last release with us, his Neo-Ouija album, "A View From A Vulnerable Place", has come out to not insignificant acclaim. Add to that a split 12" with Xhale on Civik, a couple of very neat EPs on Aural Industries, and forthcoming material on Enough Records and Merck, and we can see he's pleasantly indisposed in terms of releasing material....

Another debut on Monotonik, and this wonderful multi-layered idm-ish vocal-scattered track is by another of the new skool of Australian electronic talent, Super Science, aka Clue To Kalo. Famous idm labels have been showing interest in this particular man, and I think we can see why from this busily static-flecked, almost robotically beautiful piece.
